Arching Routes by Smrutikanta Rout

November 30 - December 20, 2012 I Utsha Foundation for Contemporary Art, VR-39, Bhubaneswar, Odisha

The first solo residency program at Utsha Foundation for Contemporary Art. This solo project by Bhubaneswar based artist Smrutikanta Rout (born. 1977), lasted for two weeks and was on view from November 30, 2012. Keeping away from perplexed reality of our time he drew contours of inquisitiveness and amusement with his simple structural works in bamboo in open spaces. As the project title implies, he delved into the subtle passage of curvilinear form taking place in open air surrounded by trees and sprouts of plantation. Working with organic materials for quite a while, Smrutikanta pursued the oeuvre motivated by the mundane situations of our environs, with all its tactile effects. The work produced by him during the residency remained in-situ only to submerge in earth with the passage of time.
