UTSHA-AADAAN RESIDENCY - Suryakanta Swain

April 30, 2019 I Utsha Foundation of Contemporary Art, UNIT 6, VR-39, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

As part of his Utsha-Aadaan residency, Suryakanta spent a month exploring Bhubaneswar’s cultural heritage and especially its vertical architecture. In his work for the residency, He tried to understand how urban ideas simultaneously developed from Indus valley civilization and also belong to a modern and smart city. Suryakanta’s work included drawings on paper which are based on destructive concrete structures which metaphorically is, making a blueprint of death - a post mortem of a biological body. He also made terracotta sculptural objects using traditional techniques.
